This role also has an additional £4,000 pa special responsibility allowance for undertaking the Monitoring Officer role, as well as a car allowance of £3,720 pa

We are an ambitious council with a big agenda. Effective governance underpins everything we do – and now we need an ambitious professional to lead our Shared Legal Services, Democratic, Elections and Licensing teams.

As the council’s principal advisor on all matters relating to governance, you will provide expert strategic guidance and support to steer our future direction. In addition, you will carry out the statutory duties in your capacity as Monitoring Officer.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join the council’s Senior Management Group and influence key decision-making. As such, it calls for an inspirational leader with proven experience of leading a similar governance function within a large and complex multi-functional organisation.

You will also have:

•    First-hand experience of working with senior officers, committees and boards
•    strong people management skills and the ability to foster a positive performance culture
•    a track record of successfully delivering strategies, policies and practices that translate organisational and service ambitions into real achievements
•    exceptional communication and teamworking skills
•    a high degree of integrity, confidentiality, discretion and personal credibility
