Our Legal organisation focuses on connecting our customers’ businesses to the ever-changing legal and regulatory environment. We provide critical online and print information, decision support tools, software and services to lawyers who practice in law firms, in corporate legal departments and in the public sector. Editor - Financial Services, Practical Law

Permanent role, ideally full-time (5 days a week). 9.00am until 5.00pm.

Role Purpose:
Practical Law Financial Services is looking for a qualified lawyer with in-depth and recent practical experience in the field of consumer credit law and regulation to work as an Editor in the Practical Law Financial Services team. We are seeking a lawyer with a high level of technical knowledge and a strong interest in writing and communicating the law and its practical implications. The role will include writing, commissioning, updating and reviewing online materials, responding to technical questions received from subscribers, developing the service and maintaining and building contacts with the market.

Major Responsibilities:

 
• Analysing the latest UK, EU and international legal and regulatory developments and writing current awareness updates and case reports for a daily e-mail.
• Writing materials in a timely and efficient manner, including practice notes, checklists, standard documents and clauses and drafting notes.
• Commissioning, reviewing and editing materials written by external contributors.
• Peer reviewing materials written by other team members.
• Ensuring the materials are well written, legally correct, up to date, reflect current market practice, and comply with Practical Law’s approach to writing.
• Responding to technical questions submitted by subscribers using the Practical Law Ask facility.
• Working with other Thomson Reuters Legal services to produce and maintain cross-service materials.
• Keeping up to date with the law and market practice.
• Keeping aware of developments in other services and the business generally and considering how they may affect the service.
• Assisting with marketing the service and engaging with subscribers.
• Developing and managing relationships with external contributors.
• Assisting the Head of Service with other projects, as required.
• Working with the Head of Service and other members of the legal editorial team on delivery of the targets for Editorial, liaising with sales, marketing, product management, technology and segment functions where necessary.

 Qualifications   Mandatory Skills and Experience:
• Significant recent practical experience as a consumer credit specialist at a law firm, the bar, in-house or a regulator.
• Knowledge and experience of financial services law and regulation.
• A high level of technical legal skill.
• An ability to work efficiently to produce well-written, practical materials.
• Strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail.
• The ability to communicate legal concepts concisely and clearly.
• Excellent organisational and planning skills.
• Strong commercial awareness.
• A team player with a positive attitude and a flexible approach.
• An ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with others across Thomson Reuters.

 

Desirable Skills and Experience:
• Experience at a relevant regulatory authority.
• Presentation, networking and marketing skills.


Education/ Certifications Required:
• Professional qualification as a solicitor or barrister with a significant amount of PQE.
• Degree educated, ideally having achieved no less than a 2:1 degree.
