Central London
We are currently looking to recruit a Lawyer for a fixed term contract to help our busy team in the run up to and aftermath of the UK general election. You will provide a wide range of legal services and advice to the Commission and its staff across the breadth of the Commission’s functions, in consultation with the Head of Legal. This will encompass legal work relating to electoral law and practice and party and election finance. Additionally you may be asked to provide advice on data protection and freedom of information law.
You will be fully entitled to practice in England and Wales under the rules of the Law Society or Bar Council (or equivalent overseas qualifications from a comparable legal jurisdiction that would enable the same) and must have post qualification experience. You must also have strong legal analytical skills, a sound legal knowledge-base and the ability to confidently and effectively interpret and apply new and complex legislation. You must possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work with, and give authoritative and timely advice to, colleagues on a rapidly expanding range of issues. You will also have good judgment, including the ability to take a balanced, realistic and practical approach.
We offer excellent terms and conditions, including flexible working hours and the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements (dependent upon scheme rules) which include a valuable range of benefits. If you're interested, you can apply online http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/jobs
Should you have any queries in relation to the role please email careers@electoralcommission.org.uk
Closing date: midday 20 October 2014 with interviews anticipated to be held soon after.
We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
