Job Reference 1450681

The Charity Commission registers and regulates charities in England and Wales, to ensure that the public can support charities with confidence.

Now is an exciting time to join us as following a reorganisation we are looking for talented individuals to develop our new specialist approach.  You can help us with this by bringing consistently greater levels of legal expertise to our regulation of charities and ensuring legal cases are defended effectively and proportionately in the tribunal and courts..

This is the most senior professional role at the Commission responsible for advising on the law and policy on charitable status and requires current in-depth knowledge of the law and practice relating to charitable status law and a sound understanding of the Commission’s legislative framework.  Main duties include:

  • managing the in-house legal team who give advice on status issues primarily to the Registration function but also to other teams in the Commission
  • conducting and advising on high profile charitable status cases; and
  • leading training and development in this area for the Commission.

You will of course be a qualified solicitor or barrister with strong analytical skills; case working skills; legal research skills; customer service and team-working skills; and be comfortable interpreting and advising on unfamiliar areas of law.

You will also be a member of the Legal Services Senior Management Team and could be based at any of our three offices in London, Liverpool or Taunton.

The benefits of working here include flexible working, access to the Civil Service Pension Scheme, generous CPD arrangements and the opportunity to make a big contribution to supporting a vital sector in society.  We are a non-ministerial government department and by joining us you will enjoy the benefits of being part of the wider Government Legal Service.
