We now seek an experienced legal professional with a strong commitment to human rights and digital rights, to lead our legal strategy, legal interventions, and legislative analysis.

The Legal Director will:

•    Lead ORG’s litigation strategy
•    Work with the ORG team to identify changes in legislation (including the drafting of amendments)
•    Contribute to ORG policy development from the legal perspective
•    Ensure ORG gets the most from its legal volunteers

Essential experience
The successful candidate will be:
•    A qualified lawyer (solicitor/barrister/legal executive) with 2 years+ PQE
•    Currently qualified to practice in England and Wales
•    Experienced in case management in civil litigation before the High Court and/or Court of Appeal (or in comparable courts)

A demonstrable knowledge of, or interest in either or both of the following broad areas of law is also essential:
•    Public law, judicial review, civil liberties, and human rights, and/or
•    Digital rights, information law, privacy and data protection, intellectual property, EU law, and technology law

Preferred experience
The ideal candidate will also have experience of:
•    Third party interventions at the High Court and Court of Appeal (including in respect of costs matters)
•    Working as part of a team in multi-party litigation
•    Instructing barristers and expert witnesses
•    Liaising with court offices (including filing and obtaining court papers)
•    Dealing with Ofcom and/or government departments
•    Experience of case management in criminal and regulatory litigation
•    Working for or with NGOs

Three days (potentially rising to four days or full time as funds allow)

A demonstrable knowledge of ECHR and/or public international law would also be welcome.
