The context
In this key role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to CQC’s overall strategy, organisational direction and effective operation. Drawing on your considerable legal expertise, you will be instrumental in ensuring that there is advice, guidance and formal legal opinion of the highest quality available to all who are charged with contributing to the discharge of CQC’s statutory duties.

Your role
As Director of Governance and Legal Services, you will lead and manage CQC’s Legal function and ensure that the Chief Executive, Executive Team, the Chair and the Board are provided with ongoing professional support. You will oversee and provide assurance on the conduct and delivery of good corporate governance across all parts of CQC and act as the key legal link between CQC, the Department of Health and other external organisations.
This is a high profile post with responsibility for ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of a number of important functions including the Private Office and Secretariat, Review of Ratings, Counter Fraud, National Complaints and Information Rights.

An established senior leader in the legal field, you will bring a track record of achieving the highest standards, and will be used to managing teams of a significant size and complexity. Personally credible, professional and assured, you will demonstrate a commitment to the vision and values of CQC and possess the political acumen that means you’ll be at home operating in a politically sensitive environment.
