Helping the businesses to deliver that growth is a key responsibility of the Northern Region Legal and Company Secretarial Directorate and this could be your opportunity to join a small but dynamic team who provide a trusted service that is efficient and lean, adaptive and agile and which fully facilitates and enables the reduction of risk or exploitation of opportunities for our businesses.

As Senior Legal Counsel you will be responsible for the provision and co-ordination of legal support to the cross-market purchasing functions with specific accountability for the areas of Product & Purchasing and One Aviation.

What you will be doing

As Senior Legal Counsel you will be supporting the Product & Purchasing teams by reviewing, drafting and negotiating multi-market contracts to include; accommodation (including LTA’s and framework agreements with strategic partners) Transfers, Services, Car Rental, Medical, Entertainment, and other ad-hoc agreements.

You will also support the One Aviation organisation and related purchasing teams in the review, drafting and negotiation of a variety of aviation related contracts, including in the areas of aircraft charter, ground handling, supply of goods and services, engineering, aviation fuel and bunker oil and other ad-hoc agreements.

Working with key stakeholders you will help us achieve a harmonised cross-market contracting architecture through cross-market collaboration between source-market lawyers when they are engaged in activity or contributing in the area of the appointee’s responsibility. You will also be arbitrating cross-market concerns in centrally defined approaches.

Integration with the Leadership Teams

Demonstrating an understanding of the Product & Purchasing and One Aviation team’s activity, structures and strategic goals and based upon your demonstrable knowledge and expertise you will become a trusted adviser to the relevant teams retaining sufficient independence to be able to offer arm’s length legal advice while becoming as integrated as necessary.

We will also look to you to develop and update precedents, procedures, policies and checklists and undertaking training and development to share best practice and promote empowerment on legal matters across the relevant areas. In addition you will drive compliance with the regulatory framework including delivering training to minimise risk around ABC, competition and data protection issues.

What we are looking for

  • A qualified solicitor with extensive PQE 
  • In depth knowledge and experience of commercial contract drafting in the areas of accommodation, non-accommodation and aviation purchasing. An understanding of international tour operating and airline business.
  • Experience in managing a high performing team of junior lawyers 
  • Excellent drafting and communication skills with the ability to negotiate and influence at the highest level 
  • Ability to research, interpret and provide advice on complex or new areas of law
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Ability to research in depth both legal and commercial/operational issues 
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships both internally and externally,
  • A good team player who demonstrates the TUI behaviours
