Brief Description of Role: Our Clinical Negligence team in Cambridge is looking for a junior lawyer to support our Partners in running a busy and varied caseload of NHS Litigation Authority (“NHSLA”) claims.  This is a great opportunity to join a highly reputable department, ranked in the top tier for Defendant Clinical Negligence in both Chambers and Legal 500.  

Team Information: Our defendant only practice based in Birmingham, Cambridge and London, advise the NHS Litigation Authority, 60 NHS Trusts, Medical Protection Society and medical malpractice insurers of private hospitals and clinics on clinical negligence claims. We also advise on health law advice, regulatory matters and represent clients at inquests and judicial reviews and give guidance on clinical risk management.  
The team consists of 7 partners and 50 lawyers undertaking healthcare related work across the three offices. 

Type of Clients related to role:  NHS Litigation Authority, NHS Trusts & NHS Bodies. 

Type of Cases related to role:    High value claims both pre-litigation and in litigation covering the full range of clinical negligence issues including, surgical, obstetric, orthopaedic and psychiatric.

Requirements:

Qualifications:     

Essential:     Strong Academics (2.1 or higher degree) or equivalent

Desirable:     UK Qualified Solicitor or CILEX qualified Legal Executive with relevant experience.
 

Experience:      (Type, length, quality, background)

Essential:     NQ-3 years’ experience, to include clinical negligence experience*

Candidates from a claimant background will be considered.
Newly Qualified candidates with personal injury experience will also be considered, providing they have a keen interest in clinical negligence.
    
Skills and Abilities:  Ability to give and take instruction.

Ability to apply a forensic approach, but also deliver economic solutions.

To be proactive and take initiative. 

Strong communication skills both verbal and written.

Ability to manage own time, excellent organisational skills. 

Strong technical and research skills.

Personality:  Flexible attitude towards working practices and ability to adapt style as required for supervision purposes.
