Senior Lawyer Corporate Governance – 30 hours per week post

Mid Kent Legal Services

Mid Kent Legal Services (MKLS) is the rapidly developing shared legal service for Maidstone, Swale and Tunbridge Wells Borough Councils. We are continuing to grow and develop our shared legal services provision.

MKLS is focused on outcomes, efficiency, excellent customer service and developing our staff. Due to the success of MKLS and increased business requirements of our three partner authorities we are expanding the team. We have a number of exciting new opportunities to take part in the delivery of our innovative One Team approach.

If you’re a customer focused team-player, qualified as a barrister, solicitor, legal executive or equivalent RFL, and would enjoy working in a busy legal office environment supporting the core business and key priorities across all three councils in the Mid Kent Improvement Partnership, then we’d really like to hear from you.

Your responsibilities as a Senior Lawyer will involve:

•    Dealing with a varied and complex caseload of work in the relevant practice area.
•    The possibility of working across all three MKLS offices (Maidstone, Sittingbourne and Tunbridge Wells) – the Planning and Corporate Governance posts will be probably based in the Swale office and the Contracts role based in either Maidstone or Tunbridge Wells but we are flexible about work arrangements for the successful candidates and some posts will also see much less requirement to travel than others.
•    Assisting in the development of members of your respective practice area.

If you wish to discuss any aspects of this vacancy, prior to application, please contact:

John Scarborough, Head of Legal Partnership at john.scarborough@midkent.gov.uk or

Estelle Culligan, Deputy Head of Legal Partnership, (01622 602174) estelle.culligan@midkent.gov.uk

Benefits include a generous annual leave allowance, Council benefits package, entry to the Local Government Pension Scheme and flexible working including home-working. Our partner Councils promote policies which support work-life balance and we welcome applications from full or part-time applicants.

This post is employed by Swale Borough Council; if you need further information or would like to apply please visit our website at www.swale.gov.uk

Closing Date:  Midnight on Monday 26th September, 2016
Interview Dates:  Weeks commencing 26th September or 3rd October, 2016
