Junior Lawyer

FPP is currently looking for a junior lawyer to join the LHRP team to work on indigenous and forest peoples’ rights in Central African Republic (CAR), with a particular focus on rights to territory and natural resources in the context of the new and developing community forestry regime.

The role may also involve some work in relation to other countries in the Congo Basin region (including in particular Cameroon and the Republic of Congo). The Junior Lawyer will be based (at least initially) in the UK (working out of our Moreton-in-Marsh office), but with regular travel to the region (approximately 30% of working time). Most of this travel will involve working directly with communities based in remote areas in the region, where travel and working conditions are challenging.

The ideal candidate will be a lawyer in the early stages of their career (with 1-4 years of legal experience and/or a specialisation in human rights).  The role will offer an opportunity to a lawyer with a demonstrated interest in human rights law to gain experience with a small but effective human rights organisation, with the support of more experienced lawyers and other specialists, who wishes to develop skills in a broad and field-based practice of human rights law. Fluency in English and French or an advanced level of both English and French language skills is required for this role, including the ability to communicate and draft at a high level in both languages.
