Trainee Solicitors x 2

St Helena, South Atlantic

2 years FTC commencing May 2017

£17k pa salary plus online Professional Skills Course, travel at start and end of contract and 30 days leave per annum.

A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK, poised for transformation with the start of scheduled flights anticipated in 2017.

The Attorney General of St Helena is an approved trainer by the SRA and is seeking two enthusiastic individuals to join Chambers as trainee solicitors.  Training and supervision is offered in the following core areas: Criminal law, Child Protection and Community Care, Civil and Contracts, Government and Constitutional. The successful applicants will be eligible to commence training contracts in accordance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
The Attorney General’s Chambers advise the Governments of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha in a wide range of legal matters and also conduct litigation before the resident Chief Magistrate and the Supreme Court of St Helena that sits 2-3 times per year.

The Attorney General is looking for highly able and reliable individuals, committed to a legal career in Government. You will need to demonstrate the ability to function in an isolated community, a flexible approach, the ability to work proactively within a team and display a confident and professional manner.

You will join a welcoming and supportive team and be required to work 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4pm.

Our Chambers is committed to safeguarding vulnerable groups and expects all employees to share this commitment. This includes obtaining references and ensuring compliance with the Disclosure and Barring Service process.
