CARE QUALITY COMMISSION
OPPORTUNITIES FOR LAWYERS AND PARALEGALS

Leeds and London

About CQC
CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. We make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and we encourage care services to improve. We monitor, inspect and regulate services to ensure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and we publish what we find to help people choose care.

About the roles
A number of exciting opportunities have arisen in CQC’s in-house Legal Services team.

Our team is made up of qualified solicitors, barristers and CILEx Fellows who provide legal advice and support throughout CQC covering all areas of law that impact the organisation and its work.  They are responsible for advising on criminal and civil and enforcement matters, undertaking urgent action which may include advocacy; and for prosecuting under our 2015 Regulations. Our work is complex, often innovative and never dull.
Our Paralegals drive case management, progress cases and provide a high level of support to the team on a range of complex cases in the criminal courts, the First Tier Tribunal, the administrative court and the coroner’s court.

The roles:

i)    National Enforcement Oversight Lawyer (National £49,966-£59,733; London £54,648-£64,415) - 1 x permanent role although a Fixed Term Contract may be considered
ii)    Senior Legal Advisors (National £37,321; London £42,003) – 2 x Fixed Term Contracts for 12 months
iii)    Paralegals (National £24,982; London £29,664) – 1 x permanent role and 1 x Fixed Term Contract for up to 12 months to cover maternity leave

About you

You will be a lawyer with proven regulatory experience who can quickly adapt to and be able to advise on the work within CQC’s regulatory remit.

We are also looking for lawyers who have proven experience of undertaking criminal prosecutions, including a solid track-record of advocacy experience.  We are increasingly using our prosecution powers and need confident and able lawyers to help us continue to deliver this work.

For our paralegals, we expect you to be able to work diligently and at a fast-pace with a keen legal mind and experience of all aspects of legal case progression and case management.

Underpinning all of this, we expect you be committed to CQC’s values of Excellence, Caring, Integrity and Teamwork.

Does this sound like you?  Are you ready for a fresh challenge?
