PRINCIPAL LEGAL OFFICER
Salary: £38,789 - £40,619
Employment Term: Permanent
Hours: Full Time / 37 per week
The Council are seeking to recruit a Lawyer with experience of local government to work within its Legal and Democratic Services section. You must be an admitted Solicitor or a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and hold post qualification experience within the areas specifically identified below.
The post holder will be required to provide high level legal advice to both Officers and Elected Members.
You should have sound knowledge and experience of dealing with a range of legal work across the Council’s functions, Committees, and meetings.
The post holder will be required to undertake contentious legal work including criminal and civil litigation, advocacy in the Magistrates and County Court in addition to dealing with various aspects of local government law including Housing, Environmental Health, and Planning. The post holder will be experienced across a range of these areas.
The post holder will be required to attend meetings of Council, Committees, Sub-Committees and other meetings as may be necessary.
The post holder will also be responsible for supervision of other members of the Legal and Democratic Services team.
