What do you do? What do you want to do?

This is what we do

We are:          The multidisciplinary in-house legal team for Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

We do:            Everything legal required in support of policing within Avon & Somerset Constabulary. We provide advocacy in the Magistrates, Crown, and County Courts, disciplinary and other tribunal hearings or Inquiries. We deal with all litigation affecting the Constabulary from the small claims to the higher courts, including Public and Employers Liability, high value, high profile claims, contractual and commercial litigation and employment disputes and litigation. And more…

We give advice on matters that affect people’s lives.

The Job:        A challenging and exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join us and contribute towards the policing of Avon and Somerset’s communities.

You will be part of the Employment and Operational team led by a Principal Lawyer and help in the delivery of effective and efficient legal services for the Chief Constable and Police & Crime Commissioner in accordance with the organisational mission, vision and values and objectives.

You are:         An energetic, articulate, computer literate and motivated qualified solicitor/barrister. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, excel working within a team and are comfortable responding to fast changing requirements.

Junior Lawyer (Operational)

You will have advocacy experience or be keen to develop advocacy skills particularly in the magistrate’s courts. Formal advocacy experience although desirable is not essential if you are able to show an enthusiasm and aptitude for advocacy and an ability to think on your feet. Your primary responsibility will be to provide advocacy but you will have responsibility for a caseload of contentious and non-contentious work relating to operational policing under the supervision of the Principal Lawyer.

You could do this too
