The Role:

The Senior Corporate Counsel, EMEA will be responsible for FinancialForce’s legal and data protection matters in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.  The position will be the first member of FinancialForce’s Legal team outside of San Francisco and will be based in Harrogate or London. The role will play a key role in developing and executing the company’s expansion strategy in Europe.  The role will support and oversee legal compliance of the Sales, Consulting, Employee Success, and Real Estate teams in EMEA.  The position will also serve as the Company’s subject matter expert on data protection, and lead the Company’s efforts to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation and other data protection requirements in Europe. This position will report to FinancialForce's SVP and General Counsel in San Francisco.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as primary provider of legal support and advice and compliance oversight for FinancialForce’s EMEA operations.  
  • Negotiate and draft master subscription agreements, consulting agreements, alliance agreements and other types of agreements with customers and partners in support of EMEA Sales, Professional Services and Alliances organizations.
  • Negotiate and draft agreements with vendors in support of various EMEA functions.
  • Assist EMEA Employee Success team with employment law matters, using outside counsel as appropriate.
  • Lead FinancialForce’s efforts to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation and other data protection laws and regulations in Europe.
  • Act as primary legal liaison for negotiation of real estate leases.  
  • Help manage litigation and other disputes.

Required Experience:

  • Fully qualified lawyer.
  • Minimum of 8 years of legal support or similar experience in private practice or in-house.
  • Substantive experience negotiating and drafting software license agreements, cloud computing agreements, and/or software consulting agreements.
  • Strong expertise in European data protection law.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and negotiation skills.
  • Highly responsive and service-oriented attitude.
  • Maturity, judgment and confidence to exercise compliance oversight in aggressive business culture.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and manage deadlines in a fast-based and demanding work environment.
  • Ability to maintain strong working relationships with demanding internal clients.
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, technical concepts in Web applications.
  • Sound and practical business judgment.

 
Desired Experience:

  • Employment law expertise.
  • Experience with open source licenses and management.
  • Ability to work in Dutch, French or German.
