We'll take the journey with you
As a Specialist lawyer within the Operations Team your main responsibility will be providing core business support across all of the Operational areas of the bank - Technology & Operations, Customer Experience, all complaint areas, Fraud, Special Investigations, Disputes, s75, Collections & Recovery, Mistaken Payments, Policy, Court Order Units, Power of Attorney Teams, Retail Assist and Probate and Bereavement Teams.
You will also be responsible for providing training to the front line in all these Operational areas and proactively reviewing and where appropriate challenging the processes and policies in these areas to ensure they are fit for purpose. You will be the lead lawyer on projects within the bank which relate to a number of products and deal with queries from the areas the team supports from the legal helpdesk providing a high quality, cost effective legal service for these operational matters.   • Working in the core support team for the Operational Teams by providing legal advice and solutions to problems in relation to individual customers or on projects engaged to fix an issue and implement a solution
  • Providing concise, practical and easily understandable legal advice and coaching on complex subject matters
  • Demonstrating creativity and innovation in reaching solutions through challenging the status quo and "thinking outside the box".
  • Actively seeking out the Root Cause Analysis of the operational issue by providing feedback to the appropriate team or by providing training on a specific matter to a team
  • Being the lead lawyer on projects which cross a number of products, on subjects such as Probate and Bereavement
  • Analysing and providing specialist advice on new business projects, identifying any statutory, compliance and regulatory risk implications

What we'll be looking for in you:
  • Thrive on managing ambiguity and working with high levels of autonomy
  • Ability to manage your work load/priorities and medium to complex problems, requiring the engagement of a range of stakeholders and comfortable at both strategic and operational levels
  • Experience of financial or commercial litigation, whilst not essential, would be beneficial a the role requires knowledge and being able to effectively advise on the issues that the business areas face, outcomes to these challenges, its drivers, the external landscape and challenges
  • Flexible approach and the ability to adapt to variations in workloads and changes in responsibilities and priorities with minimal supervision
  • Experience of working in Financial Services or for Financial Services clients
  • Some experience in Finance Litigation (not essential but would be beneficial)
  • Sound working knowledge of Retail banking operational teams and the UK Regulatory framework for financial products
  • Hold either a current Solicitors Practising Certificate for England and Wales or be fully admitted to the English Bar or hold a Scottish or foreign jurisdiction capable of conversion
