Job purpose and background:

CDP is seeking a technically skilled and commercially savvy lawyer for a new part-time role that is critical to the sustained success of the organisation. Reporting to CDP’s general counsel, you will advise delivery teams on contracts underpinning all aspects of their work and help build processes for the efficient provision of robust legal advice across the organisation. This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant contribution – in a friendly and highly collaborative working environment – to a business-facing not-for-profit at the forefront of tackling the world’s critical environmental challenges.

About CDP:

CDP is an international non-profit that drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. Voted number one climate research provider by investors and working with institutional investors with assets of US$100 trillion, we leverage investor and buyer power to motivate companies to disclose and manage their environmental impacts. Over 5,800 companies with some 60% of global market capitalization disclosed environmental data through CDP in 2016. This is in addition to the over 500 cities and 100 states and regions who disclosed, making CDP’s platform one of the richest sources of information globally on how companies and governments are driving environmental change. Please visit www.cdp.net/ to find out more.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Advising on and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts (service agreements with many of world’s leading companies and cities, NDAs, data licenses, sponsorship agreements etc.) and philanthropic and government grant agreements
  • Building processes for the efficient provision of advice to colleagues across the organisation, including implementing new ways of working, improving existing precedents and developing new ones

Required skills and experience:

  • Qualified lawyer with 3-5 years’ relevant PQE
  • Accurate, reliable and able to juggle multiple simultaneous assignments
  • Resourceful and comfortable advising on areas beyond direct experience
  • Highly personable with desire to build strong relationships with colleagues
  • Able to work independently with little support
  • Strong communication skills with ability to translate legal terms to colleagues

This is a part-time (approx. 2 days/week), flexible role based at CDP’s Central London office with scope for some home working.

Salary and benefits: £40-50k per annum (FTE), annual discretionary bonus, 24 days’ holiday (FTE) increasing to 30, generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and others.

Interested applicants must be eligible to work legally in the UK.

To apply please email your CV and a covering letter setting out how you meet the required skills and experience or key responsibilities, which should be no more than two pages, to recruitment@cdp.net with ‘Senior contracts lawyer’ in the subject. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis from 18 April with a final deadline of 6pm on 1 May. We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis from the 18 April and therefore reserve the right to close the vacancy early if a suitable candidate is appointed.
