Service Director (Assurance) & Monitoring Officer

£84,943 - £104,900

Help us shape the future of local democracy!

Cornwall Council has embarked on an exciting journey that is fundamentally changing the way public services are delivered and governed. Our historic Devolution Deal has seen the role and purpose of the Council change dramatically as it gradually gains more strategic powers from the Government to tackle current and future challenges, at the same time as devolving a range of functions to many of Cornwall’s local councils and community groups. We’ve made great progress but our devolution ambitions are far from realised and Brexit has created new opportunities that we intend to grasp.

All this requires an incremental reshaping of local democracy...and that’s where you come in! Our recent Governance Review has provided a blueprint for a new and pioneering ‘whole system’ governance model for Cornwall that you will evolve and deliver.

In addition you’ll work with Members and the Corporate Leadership Team to fulfil the ambitious aims set out in the Council Strategy and lead an efficient and effective Assurance Service.

Proven similar experience at a senior management level within a local authority or another organisation of comparable scope and complexity is essential. As well as being able to articulate a clear vision and strategy for a modern Assurance Service, you will have a track record of previous successful implementation and development in aspects of governance. An expert in your field, with the ability to see the big picture and be aware of future trends in order to develop a class leading service.

If you have the vision, enthusiasm and expertise required for this exciting opportunity, we would like to hear from you. Please visit www.leadingcornwall.com

For an informal confidential discussion, please contact our advising consultants at GatenbySanderson: Dawn Faulkner (0121 644 5702) or Marcia Williams (020 7426 3374).

Closing Date for Applications: 9am on Friday 28th April 2017
