We have a new exciting opportunity. At West Suffolk Councils we are currently looking for an ambitious, hardworking and forward thinking lawyer to come and join our team as our Principal Lawyer (Growth). You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and will receive a highly competitive salary of £36,019 - £41,551 per annum plus benefits.

With the continuing challenges to the way councils provide services comes differing opportunities for tackling future funding. The West Suffolk councils are becoming financially self-reliant and are running and developing a range of projects aimed at generating income, cutting costs and transforming service delivery.

The complex nature of these projects means we need specialist and dedicated legal support and advice.  As a result, we have developed this new Principal Lawyer (Growth) role within the Legal Service.

About the Principal Lawyer (Growth) role

As a member of the service management team (Business Partners) you will work closely together supporting the Service Manager (Shared Legal). The purpose of this position is to be the legal lead for specific growth projects, providing legal advice, solutions, challenge and strategy to support the successful delivery of an ambitious programme of projects.  You will be responsible for working in partnership with other professionals both internal and external.

You will be mainly based at West Suffolk House, Bury St Edmunds but this role will also require you to work at the offices of Forest Heath District Council in Mildenhall. You may also reasonably be required to work at any other of the Councils’ premises in order to meet the needs of the service.

What we’re looking for in our Principal Lawyer (Growth)

You will need excellent strategic thinking, the ability and confidence to challenge, motivate, communicate and influence, as well as being a driven qualified legal professional ideally with experience of project work. Good IT skills are also required.
