The Medical Protection Society is the world’s leading protection organisation for doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of more than 300,000 members around the world. Our in-house Legal Counsel advise on a wide range of matters affecting MPS, and give expert practical legal support to all levels of the business including executive and senior management and council. They ensure that MPS is regulatory compliant and that it, and its subsidiaries, follow corporate governance best practice both in the UK and internationally. They are also responsible for reviewing, negotiating and drafting contracts across all areas of the business as well as approving legal wording in business materials and marketing communications.
The team currently consists of our General Counsel, and Assistant General Counsel - The Legal counsel will report into the Assistant General Counsel and provide assistance on a wide variety of Legal matters.
The Legal Counsel will assist with the provision of legal advice on commercial and corporate legal issues affecting the MPS group in each of the jurisdictions in which it operates. They will also work as part of the General Counsel Team to ensure the company secretary and corporate governance requirements, including the Code of Ethical Conduct, for MPS and its UK subsidiaries and, in conjunction with MPS's finance department, also its foreign subsidiaries, are met.
- The Legal Counsel works closely with members of each of the divisions at all levels to assist them with practical commercial legal advice.
- Provides high quality legal advice on a wide range of legal matters affecting MPS Group.
- Assists and works as an active member of project teams.
- Assists with compliance and corporate governance.
- Assists with the identification and management of risk.
This role is a fantastic opportunity to work in a extremely interesting and niche organisation, with the opportunity to work alongside and learn from our existing general counsel team who are keen to recruit someone who can develop in the role.
Due to the size of the team you will have great exposure to all business areas and really be able to make the role your own. In this role you will need to have the ability to handle a pressurised role whilst working with a level of autonomy. Whilst this in an in-house role, this certainly isn't an 'easy option' and we need someone who is extremely proactive, pragmatic and dynamic.
