Job Details
Legal Officer
Child Poverty Action Group works on behalf of the one in four children in the UK growing up in poverty. It doesn’t have to be like this. We use our understanding of what causes poverty and the impact it has on children’s lives to campaign for policies that will prevent and solve poverty – for good.
We are looking for an ambitious and committed lawyer to lead our high profile test case work. We represent claimants in the Upper Tribunal, High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court and the Legal Officer is expected to run those cases, appoint and liaise with Counsel and oversee the associated legal aid applications in addition to ensuring the successful delivery of our public law legal aid contract.
The successful candidate will be a solicitor or barrister with at least three years’ post-qualification experience in public law and a commitment to human rights and social justice. Knowledge of social security law is also desirable, though not essential.
For further information about recent and current test cases, visit the test case section of our website - www.cpag.org.uk/test-cases/about
If you have any questions concerning the role, please contact the current legal officer, Carla Clarke, on cclarke@cpag.org.uk. Please do not call.
For further information about the role and application process, please visit our website www.cpag.org.uk/work-for-cpag or email office@cpag.org.uk for the application pack.
Closing date for applications is 12pm on 12 June 2017. Interviews will be on 20 June 2017.
