Force Legal Advisor
Force Headquarters, Exeter
Salary £33,597 - £37,563 plus market supplement of £2,500 per annum
Are you an enthusiastic lawyer who wants to make a real difference in keeping your community safe from harm? Would you like the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, wide-ranging working environment? Do you enjoy developing individuals and leading a team?
As a result of growth, we have a number of positions opening up, beginning with the roles of Senior Force Legal Advisor and Force Legal Advisor. We are looking for dedicated individuals to join our well regarded in-house team. Based in Exeter and working for two Police Forces covering Devon, Cornwall and Dorset, you will be both providing and supervising legal advice and representation to police officers and staff.
You must have a comprehensive knowledge of human rights, civil procedure rules, employment law, inquests and previous experience of handling contentious matters generally.
Your work will also cover general legal advice on various operational police matters, including civil preventative orders, disclosure and real-time advice on policing incidents.
You must be a qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives. You must be able to demonstrate previous experience of working with a considerable and diverse workload in a demanding environment and be able to offer advice within time constraints.
In addition to the above responsibilities, the Senior Force Legal Advisor will report to the Head of Legal Services. You will act as the lead for litigation against the Force, including public liability and employer’s liability claims, employment advice and tribunals and inquests. The role will also include managing and developing staff, developing the litigation portfolio, sitting on strategic boards and being a member of the Departmental Management Team.
Successful applicants will be required to undertake role related training as indicated in the role profiles.
For further details or an informal discussion please contact Lucy Seymour, Head of Legal Services on 01392 226311 or visit the website below.
If you are interested, further details of the roles, with the relevant application forms and associated documents, can be found by visiting our website at www.devon-cornwall.police.uk
CVs will not be accepted. The ability to travel is essential for the role.
