Glasgow / Manchester

Enjoy the challenge and excitement of shaping new legal services at a unique organisation that improves the lives of everyone in Britain.

At the Equality and Human Rights Commission, we work to make the nation fairer. What we do affects everyone. Whether we’re fighting for better rights for disabled people, progress on race or gender equality, or ending discrimination at work, we are the leading voice that makes change happen.

As a Principal in our Legal team, you’ll make a difference to important litigation and enforcement matters. Your focus will vary depending on whether you join our team in Scotland, or the team focussing on England and Wales. If based in Glasgow, you’ll manage our new access to justice projects, make a valuable contribution to Transfer or Expertise work, and provide second tier advice to lawyers. Alternatively, supervising a team of three lawyers in Manchester, you’ll develop schemes to assist cases including disabled people’s rights, and discrimination in education.

To join us you’ll need be a qualified solicitor (or barrister, in the Manchester role) with substantial post-qualification experience relevant to the role. Your track record includes both litigation and enforcement legal work. Crucially, you demonstrate the knowledge to lead and provide specialist technical expertise and advice on equality and human rights law.

If you share our values of fairness, dignity and respect we’d love to hear from you.
