This is an exciting opportunity to provide dedicated support to police officers and partner agencies by promoting opportunities for safeguarding and protecting vulnerable members of the community. We are looking to recruit three motivated lawyers to join our well regarded in-house team. Whilst you will have a base in Exeter, you will be working alongside Police Officers and Police Staff throughout Devon and Cornwall, providing and supervising legal advice and representation.

Initially, the specific focus of these three roles will be to improve the use of Domestic Violence Protection Orders across Devon and Cornwall, by increasing the number of orders sought, providing training to raise awareness of their availability, ensuring the effectiveness of the Orders by working alongside the Victim Care Unit and responding to breaches. In the longer term, these roles are likely to take on the wider responsibilities of the role profile in proactively seeking opportunities to pursue other types of civil preventative order.

You must demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of human rights, civil preventative orders (such as Domestic Violence Protection Orders, Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, and Sexual Risk Orders) and have handled contentious matters generally. Your work will also cover general legal advice on various operational police matters, including other civil preventative orders, disclosure and real-time advice on policing incidents.

You must be a qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives. You must be able to demonstrate previous advocacy experience and of working in a demanding environment and be able to offer advice within time constraints.

Successful applicants will be required to undertake role specific training as indicated in the role profile.
