Fantastic opportunity for a Lead Planning and Property Lawyer to manage a team and join a Local Authority based in Hampshire on a permanent basis.
This a fantastic opportunity for senior Planning and Property Lawyer to join a well-respected, friendly and supportive Local Authority who provide an excellent benefits package.
Our client is looking for an enthusiastic qualified solicitor or Barrister, committed to providing quality cost effective legal services within a joint legal service to two progressive local authorities.
The Councils are progressing with their partnerships and looking at innovative ways to deliver services. The post of Solicitor is a role providing a comprehensive client focused legal service to both Councils with specific responsibility for Planning and Property work including drafting contracts and advising on a number of innovative property matters appropriate to local government. The post holder will be required to undertake research and development in respect of legislative changes and best practice across the broad spectrum of public service provision.
You will have the ability to advice and brief others, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work, effectively on your own as well as being part of a wider team of solicitors. You will be able to influence and persuade others within a complex political environment and to engender trust and confidence. Lastly, you will have plenty of integrity and the ability to contribute to the good governance of the Councils.
DUTIES
The ideal Commercial Lawyer will be able manage a team of professional staff providing legal support for the Councils functions in particular in the area of property and planning, you will also be able to assist the Local Authority with following duties:
- To be one of the Councils legal expert in property and planning and undertake a varied caseload.
- To manage staff in the property and planning team and contribute to training: coaching: appraisals, and support.
- To provide a high quality professional service to meet the Councils legal requirements.
- To develop the service in order to maximise income and assist manage the budget relevant to the service area. Specifically to contribute and support business development initiatives, marking to outside parties, education and training. Further to assist provide and contribute to commercial initiatives working with other officers and lawyers across the Councils.
- Appearing as advocate or any support role on behalf of the Councils at Courts and other tribunals
- Undertaking legal research on behalf of the Councils and to maintain a current and effective knowledge of all relevant legislation, regulations and practices in relation to the legal function required by the property and planning group.
