  • Working in the Commission’s Scotland and Corporate Delivery network, the Senior Associate - Casework and transfer of expertise in the Scotland legal team will have responsibility for the operational delivery of a casework service for people who have been discriminated against and will also deliver our transfer of expertise programme. The main responsibilities of this role will include:sourcing and investigating cases to determine those of strategic importance to the Commission,
  • Providing information and legal guidance to individuals whose cases are being assessed for potential support by the Commission.
  • Providing support and advice on discrimination and human rights to external advisors
  • Creating and delivering a transfer of expertise programme, providing training across Scotland
  • Developing and delivering projects and events on time and to the Commission's operating standards, to deliver the Commission's business plan
  • Developing and maintaining stakeholder networks in pursuit of the delivery of projects
  • Developing good working knowledge, within the Scottish context, of a number of domains, issues, specialisms or sectors, and
  • Producing written reports and communication materials to maximise the impact of project work.

To be successful in this exciting yet challenging role, you will have:

  • An understanding of equality and/or human rights legislation, together with knowledge of Scots law and experience of the Scottish legal system. preferably gained from working on projects with demonstrable outcomes,
  • The ability to analytically examine information, investigate evidence and assess compliance with the EA and HRA
  • The ability to translate legal concepts into clear, concise language, making recommendations to support decision - making or promote external compliance
  • The ability to provide advice and support on discrimination and human rights issues, within the Scottish context, to advisors 
  • The ability to develop, plan and deliver training on discrimination and human rights law to advisors and solicitors across Scotland
  •  The ability to develop and maintain networks in key sectors to promote and progress equality and human rights
  •  The ability to develop and maintaining expert knowledge of a number of sectors to inform the work of the Commission
  • Ability to design, development and delivery a number of projects to promote and progress equality and human rights across key sectors, to deliver the Commission's business plan
