The Communication Workers Union is based in Wimbledon and the Legal Services Department acts as a conduit between members and branches with the union’s owned law firm UnionLine, providing a comprehensive range of legal services to CWU members and their families.

UnionLine is the first trade union owned ABS law firm in the UK, wholly owned by the CWU & GMB unions acting as a one stop legal shop for the combined membership of 850,000 members and their families.  UnionLine provides free legal advice, case preparation and merit assessments to members, and works alongside the CWU’s Legal Services Department and union officials. UnionLine Scotland is a dedicated law service for members in that country.

The Legal Services Department works in conjunction with UnionLine providing a range of Legal Services.

The Legal Services Manager provides support and assistance to the Head of Legal Services in the management of the strategic direction, workflow and resources in the Legal Services Department.  The postholder will manage a total of 12 members of staff.  In addition, the Legal Services Manager provides an advisory role on all Personal Injury and Employment Law issues.

The successful applicant will have a thorough knowledge of UK Employment and Personal Injury Law as well as a knowledge on all aspects of the services provided by the CWU Legal Department.  Experience of Personal Injury Claims and employment-related case work will be required as well as previous line management/supervisory experience.  The successful applicant will also have experience in implementing change.
