In-House Solicitor – temp to perm Maternity Cover

Starting salary £44,379.36

Ref LS/IHS

Leatherhead, Surrey

The Police Federation of England & Wales (PFEW) is the UK’s largest staff association and represents the interests of all police constables, sergeants, inspectors and chief inspectors. It has been at the forefront of test case litigation concerning the employment rights of police officers, including many cases that have become central to modern discrimination law. Its financial support for legal services and assistance to members can run to several million pounds each year.

We are looking to expand our in-house legal services team and require confident, self-motivated, capable individuals to join us to provide comprehensive employment and discrimination law advice regarding PFEW members to senior elected officials.  The successful candidates will also provide advice on which cases should be funded by the PFEW, and contribute to the training of PFEW representatives on employment and discrimination law.

The post is to cover maternity leave and will be on a contract for up to one year based at our purpose built offices in Surrey, with free parking, and free access to onsite gym. However, we are looking to expand the team, and there may be an opportunity for the role to become permanent if the appointment is successful.

The post reports to the Deputy General Secretary and requires professional legal qualification, at least 2 years post qualified experience in employment and/or discrimination law, evidence of continuing professional development and good research skills.
