Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of the Crown Prosecution Service

The Attorney General is seeking to appoint the next Chief Inspector of the Crown Prosecution Service, who will be playing a central role in improving the criminal justice system through inspections of the Crown Prosecution Service and the Serious Fraud Office.

The Chief Inspector is responsible for leading an independent inspectorate, holding responsibility for the development and delivery of independent inspection programmes, the production of high-quality, evidence-based inspection reports including findings and recommendations and providing independent assurance to the public and the Government on the effectiveness of public prosecutions. The Chief Inspector is the organisation’s voice and is responsible for providing clear and visible leadership to staff.

This is an extremely rewarding role in a high-profile area of Government work which provides an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to contribute significantly to improvements in the delivery of essential public services.

The work of Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate includes identifying best practice, areas for improvement and offering an independent level of assurance, crucial in challenging poor performance and enhancing the quality of justice.

Ideal candidates will be individuals who can demonstrate a proven ability to act with

integrity, high levels of personal and professional conduct, judgement and credibility. They will need an understanding or experience of the criminal justice system in the UK or comparable jurisdictions alongside exceptional leadership qualities and outstanding communication skills.
