Six benefits of job searching with a recruitment consultant

A recruitment consultant is a company assisting other companies, source, and hire talent. Typically, job seekers apply directly to employers, with a recruitment consultant, or both at the same time to increase their chances in finding a role quick or have exposure to more and diverse opportunities.

Here are six benefits of job searching with a legal recruitment consultant:

1. Wider selection and choice: find and discover new companies and roles to apply to.

A recruitment consultant typically collaborates with various companies and is briefed with many vacant roles at the same time. If you do not have a particular company in mind this is a clever way to potentially find new companies to apply to and explore the wider job market. Even if you do have a particular company to apply to, they may not have a relevant open role at that time. Recruitment consultants will present more job role options, and you would have a chance to discover and apply to companies you never knew existed. This may also speed up the process in finding a new role.

2. Achieve more by doing less.

Searching for a job is a time-consuming process. Once you register and the initial discussion is over, and job requirements established, consultants will start approaching you with relevant job opportunities, when they become available. This is especially useful because as a professional working in the legal industry, you are remarkably busy. Having someone else assisting in that process is useful. This increases the chance of finding a role quick and may increase the number of roles available to you. Having more options and interviews is typically better because you have more chances of getting a role and ability to choose roles if more than one offer is extended.

3. Specialist recruitment

Many recruitment consultants are specialist. This means they only receive roles from clients (employers) in one specific industry e.g., legal industry. This means you get exposure and access to more roles relevant to you. As a specialist recruitment consultant in the legal industry, they are well known by organisations looking for talent. This means they receive open roles more frequently and this increases your chances in finding a relevant opportunity quick.

4. Always on job search

There is an option to search continuously – “always on.” Once a role is secured, an offer accepted, you can stay open for future opportunities. This means you work and continue passively searching for another opportunity. You can indicate with the recruitment consultant that you wish to receive information for future roles. Your registration with the recruitment consultant stays open and they approach you with other opportunities relevant to you. Even if you are satisfied and comfortable in a role, and a company, you can keep an eye on the market and check occasionally what other opportunities are available. Especially in today’s rapidly evolving job market and ongoing cost of living crises, earning more is always a good option for many professionals.

5. Career, CV, interview or other job/career related advice and services

Many recruitment consultants offer additional services such as career and CV advice. How to enhance your CV, write a cover letter, salary trends, or advice and ideas for potential future roles. In addition, they may help with interview preparation, or offer other relevant career help relevant for your job search.

6. Salary, market trends and other useful job/career information.

Recruitment consultants are experts in the job marketplace and have detailed knowledge of various career market trends, salary trends and other useful job / career information. This aids job seekers in their process and enhances the job search process.

For example, some recruitment consultants offer a salary guide / survey to help job seekers understand the current salary trends, ask for the right amount, or benchmark their current salary.

Tip: Knowing what you are looking for and having clear requirements is helpful in streamlining the jobs search process.

  • Work location preference
  • Contract type
  • Job title
  • Industry
  • Salary requirement
  • Future career goals
  • and other considerations you may find relevant.

The best option is to have this information prepared in advance. It is immensely helpful for you and the recruitment consultant. This indicates that you are serious and clear on your requirements and goals. Also, it saves you time because it may shorten the initial discovery process and lengthy question and answer conversations.
