About The Role:

As our company continues to expand, this newly created Head of Legal role is pivotal to supporting our mission and driving growth. As our first legal hire, you’ll work directly with senior leadership to build a scalable, business-savvy legal function that ensures business protection, guides strategic decisions, and fuels long-term success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of legal agreements including sales contracts and advise the Executive Leadership Team on any appropriate legal action to be taken.
  • Manage risk profile and a wide range of legal matters across the organisation utilising expertise in general corporate matters, such as corporate organisation, compliance matters, license agreements, employment law, international data privacy, risk management, and intellectual property matters including patents and trademarks.
  • Provide a wide range of general corporate and commercial legal services to a number of in-house clients.
  • Manage litigation matters on the company’s behalf and coordinate litigation and other legal matters handled by outside counsel.
  • Establish business relationships with key customers and distribution partners through structuring and administrating contractual documents.
  • Evaluate contracts to ensure compliance to company policy, applicable laws and other requirements.

Key Requirements:

  • Solicitor with 5+ years PQE (Solicitor qualification essential), ideally with experience across both private practice and in-house roles.
  • Proven experience in providing high quality legal advice on a wide range of commercial matters across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Expertise in negotiating and executing commercial agreements with leading global companies.
  • Strong understanding of legal risk management and compliance within a high-growth, tech/SAAS based environment.
  • Experience in supporting IP strategies, including the protection and exploitation of critical IPR.
  • Capable of providing legal support to other internal functions, such as HR, Finance and Supply Chain.
  • Knowledge of company secretarial duties and commercial risk mitigation strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Pragmatic, decisive, and able to work at pace with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill, with the ability to present complex legal information clearly in a manner that is understandable by a wide range of stakeholders.
  • High-level proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, Xero, and Breathe HR, along with the ability to quickly learn other systems. As a tech-driven company, strong technical skills are essential.
