Senior Legal Adviser

£51,787 to £68,234 with an exceptional maximum of £78,462

As an experienced solicitor or barrister with at least five years’ PQE, you’ll have the knowledge and skills to confidently provide legal advice to support an organisation performing a high-profile function in UK professional medical regulation.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) is the adjudication service for doctors in the UK. We protect patients by making independent decisions about a doctor’s fitness to practise, measured against professional standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC).  We are a statutory committee of the GMC and operationally separate from its role in investigating cases.

Bringing excellent technical skills to the role, you’ll provide our staff with accurate and time-critical legal input, helping deliver our tribunal service work to the highest standards. With involvement in training associates, assisting with case management decisions and working on projects to improve our service, this is an opportunity to take up a uniquely diverse and challenging role.

You’ll need excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as significant experience of MPTS or similar hearings. The ability to work well and establish credibility with internal teams and external parties is vital, as is the ability to deliver authoritative advice in a legal environment.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people.  We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.

Closing date: 17 July 2017 at midnight, late applications will not be processed.

The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination.
