About West Midlands Police

West Midlands Police is the second largest police force in the country, covering an area of 348 square miles and serving a population of almost 2.9 million.

The region sits at the very heart of the country and covers the three major centres of Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton. It also includes the busy and thriving districts of Sandwell, Walsall, Solihull and Dudley. Leisure, retail and conference amenities, together with Premiership and Championship football teams, attract millions of visitors annually.

The force deals with more than 2,000 emergency calls for help every day, as well as patrolling the streets and responding to incidents 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week.

Why Join Us

We are West Midlands Police. We work in partnership to make communities safer. At the heart of everything we do, we always see the person needing help.

We’re available around the clock online, by phone and in person for the 2.9 million people we serve and the millions of others who visit or travel through the region every year. Our 12,500-strong team are supported by thousands of volunteers including Street Watch members whose patrols help to keep their neighbourhoods safe.

Together we’ve got a tough job, and some of our greatest achievements are the ones which never hit the headlines. It’s the peace that returns to a once troubled street, the criminal whose life we helped to turn around and the child who can sleep at night without fear of abuse.

Even though we’re the second largest police force in the UK, little things which make a difference happen every day in West Midlands Police. We achieve this thanks to a strong set of shared values that unite us all and because we know that everything we do has the potential to change people’s lives.

We have big ambitions for our future. We all have a role to play delivering our strategy that is built on three key elements:

• Providing a service that works for local people

• Building engaged communities

• Being an employer of choice

Every single one of us knows that working for West Midlands Police is not just a job. We know that this work matters.
