In-House Paralegal

The General Medical Council helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. They support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

As part of their close knit, in-house legal team, you could become involved in this fascinating area of law, working on a uniquely varied and sometimes high-profile caseload. You'll either be part of a team supporting solicitors by progressing and preparing cases that have been referred to the Medical Practitioner's Tribunal Service (MPTS) or part of a new team that will itself prepare cases for hearings before the Interim Orders Tribunal.

There are two roles available. The first role may involve everything from preparing hearing bundles, to liaising with doctors, complainants, witnesses, defence representatives, employers and members of the public in order to provide case information and updates. The second role will involve drafting instructions to the GMC's barrister and the subsequent provision of support and assistance to the barrister at the hearing.

An unwavering attention to detail needs to be combined with the ability to interact well with colleagues, the medical profession and the public. Both roles are based within their office in Spinningfields, situated in the heart of Manchester City Centre. One role will also require regular attendance at the nearby MPTS Hearing Centre, situated on Oxford Road in Manchester.

Both roles will commence in September 2017 and are for a fixed term of 7 months. The roles would be suitable for graduates completing the LPC, GDL or LLB.
