Several exciting opportunities are available to join our busy Legal Service at Dorset County Council, in the picturesque county town of Dorchester. We are seeking knowledgeable, passionate and creative-thinking Lawyers,who want to help us make a difference.

We are looking for applicants with good technical knowledge (ideally in a Local Government context although this is not essential) and able to demonstrate a “can do” approach.

You must be organised and able to work under pressure with minimal supervision while still being a valuable team player. Applicants must also have excellent communication skills enabling them to build strong relationships with clients.

Each post is open to qualified Solicitors, Barristers and Chartered Legal Executives that are able to meet the specific requirements of the roles.

We have the following vacancy:

Business Partner/Senior Solicitor (Children’s Services)

You will lead the Legal Services Children’s team at Dorset County Council and take responsibility for providing management and supervision across all areas of the Legal Services Children’s team in addition to Child Protection, Adoption and Fostering, Education Law (including school attendance). You will be expected to demonstrate significant post qualification knowledge and practical experience in Children’s Law, advocacy and drafting skills. Experience of managing, leading and motivating a team is also essential. You should also be able to demonstrate excellent skills in the following areas; provision of advice to a range of internal Stakeholders including Senior Managers and Councillors, effective team and case management and ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.

For the above position the Council requires you to hold and maintain a valid Practising Certificate.

These posts all have a significant travel requirement and you are contractually required to have a vehicle (or transport deemed to be suitable by the County Council) available for use as required.

This posts involve working with children or vulnerable adults and/or having access to significant information about them and will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
