Head of Compliance

An extremely interesting fixed term contract role has arisen with a highly credible organisation in Newcastle to be the key compliance point of contact and to oversee the delivery of the group compliance plan. This organisation is a leading global insurer providing insurance in a highly specialist area. In order to provide the highest quality service, this group is made up of a number of professional teams including solicitors, underwriters as well as experts in the fields of IT, risk & compliance and finance.

Role
Responsibilities include the following:
Work with the Director (Risk and Compliance) on the development and maintenance of the Group Compliance Plan and oversee the delivery of this
Oversee the identification of compliance risks
Advise on systems and controls to ensure compliance with multi-jurisdictional regulatory requirements and undertake reviews of systems and controls and group policies and procedures
Track and monitor regulatory requirements and assist in providing appropriate training across the group as necessary
Oversee the maintenance of the compliance registers by compliance executives which are monitored by the Group Risk Committee.
Where relevant, acting as a key contact for specific jurisdictions on compliance and regulatory matters, including liaising with local regulators and regulatory advisors
Oversee, undertake and support ad hoc projects as directed in light of new regulatory regimes.
Oversee the supervision of compliance executives
This is a fixed term contract for 12 months and a full-time position.

Candidate

Educated to post graduate level or equivalent (legal discipline) (desirable).
Educated to graduate level or equivalent (legal discipline) (essential).
Experience of working within a financial services regulation or other regulatory environment.
Good regulatory knowledge and understanding and experience of regulatory and compliance matters
Ability to challenge and influence and to communicate complex regulatory issues.
Continuous professional development to maintain professional status (Solicitors Practising Certificate).
Keep up to date with all relevant laws, rules and regulations.
