St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500. It is poised for transformation with the beginning of air access due to be operational in the last quarter of 2017.

The Attorney General’s Chambers is currently made up of the AG and Crown Counsel (Community Care), Crown Counsel (Civil), Crown Prosecutor, a Legal Executive, two trainee solicitors and two admin support.  There is a full-time Legislative Drafter who works remotely and the Crown Counsel based on Ascension.

The Solicitor General is the right hand of the AG and is in charge of overseeing and supporting the governments of Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. The SG provides leadership, general legal advice and represents the Government in a variety of cases in the following areas: Constitutional law, Administrative law, Civil law (personal injury & clinical negligence), Commercial law, Employment law and Criminal law.

You will have expertise in at least one of the above areas of law, be flexible and willing to expand your practice. You will be a team player, committed to providing comprehensive, reliable, and timely legal advice to all organs of government.

As an experienced UK qualified barrister or solicitor with at least 10 years call / PQE, you will have experience as a court advocate, be computer literate, and have the ability to mentor junior staff. Your strong analytical and communication skills should be complemented by a flexible approach.
