Lawyer (Property)

Permanent - Full time

Hackney is London's most diverse and dynamic borough. Stretching from the edge of the City, to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, it is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in the tech, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green space than any other inner London borough, some of the capital's best schools, and first class transport connections, which combined with excellent local public services and a thriving arts, cultural and retail sector, are fast making it one of London's most popular areas to live, work and visit. The challenge for Hackney is to make sure that the borough's economic growth provides benefits for everyone who lives here, and to create opportunities that will transform the lives of local people.

Hackney’s legal team enables and supports the council to provide an effective and value-for-money service. The borough’s housing lawyers provide clear, consistent and accurate legal advice to clients and undertake advocacy on behalf of the Council in courts and tribunals. An opportunity has arisen in the housing legal team for a qualified lawyer.

We need an experienced property lawyer to join our committed team to deal with a mix of property related transactions to include commercial and residential property work. Residential property – to deal with acquisition and sales and guidance regarding tenancy management issues, commercial leases, lease renewals, enfranchisement, sales and acquisitions. The knowledge and willingness to assist with regeneration and CPO matters is also required. This is a challenging role that involves taking responsibility for mixed caseload of commercial and residential property matters.

We are looking for a qualified Solicitor or Barrister or Fellows of the Institute of Legal Executives with post-qualification experience, working in local authority would be advantageous but is not essential.

You must have strong negotiation and drafting skills together with the credibility to influence people at the highest level and from all backgrounds.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high profile organisation.

If you share our values and are ready to be part of our exciting journey please visit our website to apply.

Please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.

It is essential that you include a supporting statement and CV, addressing how your skills, knowledge and experience meet all the aspects of the post, as indicated in the job description and person specification. You may wish to use the Personal Specification when structuring this.

Closing date: Sunday 22 October 2017 (22:59hrs)

We are passionate about equal opportunities and welcome a diversity of talent to apply.
