A Senior Lawyer role has arisen within the Democratic Services Legal Group of Manchester City Council’s City Solicitor’s Division.

The Democratic Services Legal Group provides support to the City Solicitor in relation to a number of key areas of responsibility, including in relation to the City Solicitor’s roles as Monitoring Officer and Senior Information Risk Owner for the Council. The Group advises more widely on local government/public administration law, information governance matters and election law.

The role requires the provision of consistent and high quality advice and, where appropriate, briefings and training to chief officers, client departments and internal and external stakeholders as to the law relating to the Group’s practice areas. It will also involve the development of associated policies and procedures. In addition it will require the preparation of reports to the Council, the Executive and the Council’s committees and, on occasion, attendance at such meetings to provide legal advice.

The successful candidate will be responsible for, with minimum supervision, a caseload of complex work relating to local government/public administration law, information governance matters and election law. As part of a shared legal service advice will need to be provided to both Manchester City Council and Salford City Council. Advice will also be provided to other clients, including Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

We are an Equal Opportunities Employer and we positively welcome applications from all candidates regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
