Commercial Solicitor

Reputable commercial law firm in Harrogate requires, due to expansion, an additional Solicitor for its’ expanding commercial/IT  team. The firm are repeatedly ranked for their quality of work in directories such as Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.

This role may suit a junior lawyer with specific training and experience in the sector, or someone with more experience and the ability to develop the role. 

The commercial team is led by highly-rated technology and commercial lawyer and this role would involve working very closely with him in the further development of the technology aspect of the team. Their clients are technology and digital agency companies  in the UK and overseas (including USA), whom they advise particularly in relation to contract drafting and negotiation, especially around commercial protection, intellectual property, data protection and other aspects necessary both to drive and protect  their businesses. 

Depending on experience, the role may include assisting with commercial transactions, and ideally being able to lead on some. You will however be expected to handle valuable commercial, and particularly technology-based contracts from day one.

The successful candidate would be expected to work across their Leeds and Harrogate offices – currently operated as two full days from Leeds, three from Harrogate.

Duties will include;

• Working directly with the firms’ key commercial clients especially in the digital sector, negotiating contracts especially for software deployment and digital marketing projects.
• Advising on data protection projects to achieve GDPR readiness both for technology and other types of businesses
• An ability to deal with a broad range of commercial needs which business clients, albeit principally in the digital sector, may have.

You will need:

• At least 2 years PQE in handling commercial contract issues, Intellectual Property, especially around copyright and trade marks, Data Protection, including the provisions of GDPR, and Business structures
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• To understand  clients commercial objectives;
• To be organised and methodical;
• To be a team player, with willingness to assist tea members to help deliver a joint outcome;
• To be able to work to deadlines and to prioritise conflicting objectives;
• To be computer literate, with good research skills;
• Accuracy, with good attention to detail.
