Askham Bryan College is a large, specialist land-based College with centres in Yorkshire, Cumbria and Middlesbrough.
 
Joining us as a Legal and Compliance Adviser, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and services within the College and ensuring high quality governance and compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
 
You will work closely with the Director of Finance and the Clerk to the Corporation, liaising with internal auditors to realise the Internal Audit Plan and to investigate irregularities and non-compliance issues. You will manage and enhance College’s risk management processes and promote risk and compliance awareness across the College.  Further, you will be responsible for managing data protection processes and promoting compliance and awareness, consistently monitoring the College’s compliance with GDPR requirements and other relevant legislation.
 
You will also be responsible for contract management, leading on the production of tender documents, agreements, leases and procurement contracts. You will manage agreements between the College and third parties and provide support, oversight and control of the internal policy system.
 
A qualified solicitor, barrister or legal executive and with relevant experience in providing independent advice and guidance on compliance issues, you will have the ability to interpret and advise on the law, draft legal documentation and have experience of ensuring compliance, challenging where appropriate.  With a background of working with senior executives, directors and governors and with experience of data protection management, you will be able to demonstrate a high level of professional integrity and provide authoritative advice and assistance in an accurate and concise manner.
