Full Time Permanent Post (37 hours per week)
Salary from £46,211 to £50,800
Join our Legal Services Section, based in Worthing Town Centre, providing a joint legal service to Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council.
We are looking for a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience, to act as Senior Lawyer and Deputy Monitoring Officer for the Councils.
You must have substantial knowledge and experience of local government law and practice and in particular, experience in at least two of the following areas: Local Authority Governance; Planning; Environmental Health; Constitutional and Administrative Law; Employment Law; Licensing; Civil Litigation and Debt; Criminal Litigation and Housing.
You will be responsible for managing and leading staff within the Governance and Regulatory Team and should therefore ideally have relevant leadership experience.You will be required to regularly advise Members and Senior Officers and attend Council meetings including Committees. This will involve some evening work.
The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills; strong negotiating skills; the ability to apply the law to complex issues and provide clear, accurate legal advice; and be an excellent team player.
