Special Crime lawyers advise on and, where appropriate, prosecute some of the most sensitive and demanding cases across England and Wales. As well as very high profile cases including those arising from disasters, they manage cases which involve serious criminal allegations against police officers and sensitive cases such as deaths in custody, election offences and corporate manslaughter.
As well as the police, Special Crime lawyers work with investigators from organisations including the Independent Office of Police Conduct and the Health and Safety Executive.
The team has offices in York and London but the following types of cases are referred to Special Crime from across England and Wales:
•disasters
•deaths in custody or following police contact
•assisted suicide
•serious criminal allegations against police officers
•corporate manslaughter
•gross negligence medical manslaughter
•election offences
•cases involving high profile individuals such as MPs where the allegations may be of constitutional significance
•leaks of confidential information by public officials to journalists

You will be a solicitor or barrister with significant experience of working in criminal law, either prosecuting or defending. You will have a proven track record of advising upon the admissibility of evidence, police powers and disclosure. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills.
