Private Client Court of Protection Solicitor

I am a partner in the Court of Protection Team at Irwin Mitchell LLP. As the partner of the Birmingham team, I am responsible for the day to day management of the team and leading them forwards whilst also playing an active role in client matters.

The Court of Protection team become involved when, in certain circumstances, family members and loved ones may no longer have the mental capacity required to make important decisions regarding their finances. The Court of Protection is the judicial body responsible for making decisions relating to the management of finances and other affairs of those individuals who lack the mental capacity to do so themselves.

The team assist with matters such as appointing a deputy or acting as a deputy , statutory wills and trusts , including those for children , court of protection health and welfare disputes.

In this role you will mainly handle court of protection work and you should have a background in mental heath, mental capacity, private client, private wealth or inquest work.You should have had at least one seat in a court of protection or private client matters during your training contract.

You will be given a manageable caseload but would also assist the lead partner on some cases.

Most of the work would relate to Birmingham matters although sometimes they might handle work that comes in from another location.

The team set up is a partner, an associate, a trainee, paralegals and support.

The working hours are 9am to 5pm and the salary at NQ level is £36.5K per annum. Applications from solicitors with a higher PQE than NQ will be considered if you have the relevant experience level.

The role has come about as a result of expansion and there are many positive reasons for joining a department such as this one.

The team has grown steadily over time , their reputation has developed and revenue streams into the team have also gone from strength to strength.
