Contracts Lawyer

Salary: £35,444 to £39,177 - Band H

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Location: Exeter

Legal Services & Communications

We are looking for a Solicitor or Legal Executive to join the Contracts & Procurement section of Devon County Council’s Legal Department.

Initially, your main responsibilities will include drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and public sector agreements and liaising with Senior Officers and County Councillors as appropriate.  Procurement experience is desirable but not essential.  Over time, and with supervision, your main responsibilities will broaden to including advising on public procurement law and providing support and management throughout various procurement processes.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Solicitor or Legal Executive with experience in drafting contracts to develop into a Contracts & Procurement lawyer.

Local Authority experience is desirable but not essential.  We are looking for a motivated individual with sound judgement and a keen interest in the public sector to join our busy but friendly team.

Closing date: 25th March 2018

Company

Roles available range from legal assistant to senior solicitor. There are also opportunities for paralegal apprenticeships which provide a career progression route for legally unqualified staff.

Working in a public sector legal environment offers many advantages over private practice. There are no billing targets and a flexible working policy enables some flexibility in working hours, along with the possibility of some homeworking – ensuring that staff are able to maintain a positive work-life balance.

The variety of work is also much broader in a local authority. No two days are the same and you will be asked to consider questions and issues that you would be unlikely to come across in private practice.
