Department: Health Advisory and Litigation - Inquests and Advisory

My client is a national law firm offering a unique collection of specialisms across the commercial, public, health and insurance sectors, with offices in Birmingham, Exeter, London, Manchester and Nottingham. They have long-standing relationships with an impressive range of clients and aim to truly understand their needs to deliver an exceptional service which exceeds their expectations and makes their life easier.

Purpose of the role

To conduct health-related inquests (including advocacy) primarily for the NHS, with opportunities to work for independent sector health and social care clients and local authorities. This could include inquests funded by NHS Resolution and so you may need to advise on related clinical negligence litigation issues. You will work in a team that provides a range of high quality legal services on complex matters. You will also manage a caseload of varied cases of advice on health and social care advisory issues, including in the Court of Protection. including for example mental health, mental capacity and deprivation of liberty,medical treatment decisions and welfare planning disputes, safeguarding, access and funding disputes and continuing healthcare / Individual Funding Requests, information governance / DPA / FOI, judicial review and Human Rights Act claims. This will typically include doing your own advocacy in the Court of Protection.

-Delivering exceptional client service, including proactive, strategic and commercial management of cases
-To manage a caseload of health and social care inquests, mental capacity / court of protection cases general advisory work with minimal supervision
-Delegation and supervision of tasks to more junior members of the team where appropriate
-To undertake marketing activities, including the planning and delivery of relevant seminar an training programmes
-To achieve budgeted hours and fees for the year
-Willing to spend time with clients on short-term secondments if required
