Associate (2 Years+ PQE) – Commercial Disputes - Central London 

This Leading Legal 500 firm are a leading 85 lawyer mid-tier law firm, with offices in London and Geneva providing a comprehensive legal service to a wide range of businesses and high net worth individuals. Dispute Resolution is the largest area of the firm. The Client base includes multinationals, public and private companies, partnerships, public sector organisations and private clients.  

The Banking and Financial Disputes Team

The team is particularly active in banking and financial markets litigation in the Commercial Court (and the new Financial List) but it also undertakes a significant amount of other complex commercial disputes work including civil fraud and professional negligence and judicial review in the commercial context. It is increasingly also acting for individuals and firms in regulatory enforcement matters.  

Clients come from a variety of areas including property investors and developers, investment funds/asset managers and other financial market participants, investors, corporates, larger owner managed businesses including(typically larger) SMEs.  

The Role

This is an opportunity for a talented, experienced commercial disputes specialist with an interest in financial markets work to join an ambitious and successful team of commercial disputes lawyers who have a strong reputation as leading “conflict free” litigators acting in high value and high profile disputes in the financial services arena.

The work is challenging and stimulating and may appeal to a 2+ PQE solicitor who is currently at a large law firm and wants greater responsibility and more experience involvement. 

The candidate can expect a caseload consisting of claims ranging from c.£500,000 up to £100m + and the subject matter typically will include derivatives/ISDA disputes, investment/product mis-selling claims, LIBOR/benchmark manipulation claims, breach of contract and professional negligence and disputes and advice regarding litigation funding and ATE insurance (from the funder’s perspective).  

Experience of financial services related work is desirable but not absolutely essential provided the candidate can demonstrate an interest in that work and an aptitude for complex litigation. The role may be of interest to an applicant with a background in heavy banking disputes and regulatory investigations acting for banks who is looking for a more client facing and strategic role and wider exposure to different types of financial markets disputes and other commercial litigation. Alternatively, it may interest a general commercial litigator with extensive experience of high value and complex litigation (in the £10m - £500m bracket) and some experience of the area, who has an interest in combining financial services work with other commercial litigation.
