Purpose of the role

An important and challenging role for an enthusiastic and personable individual who wants to be part of the ongoing development of the Employment team, within the Company Commercial Department at Thrings.

Responsibilities

  • Advising a wide range of clients on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law, including day to day advice on employee relations issues, contract and document drafting, policy and procedures, corporate support and due diligence, TUPE consultation and related issues

  • Advising clients on all aspects of non-contentious immigration law including Tiers 1 & 2 of the PBS, applications for permanent residence / indefinite leave to remain, legal working and other non-contentious immigration issues excluding asylum process and practice

  • Dealing with the full range of tribunal claims and tribunal advocacy
  • Other contentious work might include high ct claims for injunctive relief relating to breach of confidentiality and restrictive covenants

  • Advising clients on risk management to include training workshops

  • Offering an all round service through our leading edge website and insurance-based product Thrings@work

  • Managing WIP, Billings, aged debts and meeting financial and work done/chargeable hours targets
  • Targetting potentil clients

Skills and experience

  • Law degree or equivalent; strong academic record
  • employment lawyer with 3-4 years post qualification experience who is able to hit the ground running;

  • knowledge and experience of immigration law in context of advising business clients and individuals; desirable (not essential)

  • confidence and ability in client management, on the phone, by email and face to face;

  • able to market to a wide variety of clients; large corporates, SMEs, agricultural businesses, educational institutions and individuals;

  • working with other teams and members of the firm to obtain and provide cross-referrals;

  • a sound commercial approach to problem solving;

  • a flair for legal presentations to clients and contacts.

  • Good IT skills
