Working Hours: There is the option to work 4 days a week (28.8 hrs) or 5 days a week (36 hrs).
Salary: £51,945 per annum (36 hrs), £41,555 per annum (28.8 hrs).
Who We Are
The Electoral Commission is the independent body that regulates party and election finance, sets standards for well-run elections and encourages people to register to vote. The Legal team works to support delivery of all the Commission’s objectives.
The Commission regulates the financing of elections and referendums and advises on their administration. This is an exciting time to work at the Commission - in addition to its role in the upcoming local government elections we also have a challenging and varied programme of electoral modernisation over the next few years.
We are looking for an experienced public lawyer to join our dedicated and enthusiastic team.
You will be involved in a wide range of legal work encompassing both electoral law and practice and political finance and regulation legal work. The post holder will also be required to provide data protection and freedom of information law advice, and advice on other cross-Commission projects.
Who we are looking for
This role requires strong legal analytical skills, sound legal knowledge-base and the ability to confidently and effectively interpret and apply new and complex legislation. You will have a strong understanding and experience of advising on public law. Experience of government (central or local) or related organisations with governmental type duties would be advantageous as would a background in regulatory or criminal law.
