Excellent prospects for experienced lawyer dealing with complex planning matters

The Firm
This award-winning local firm in the Maidstone area is particularly known for its specialist work in public-sector matters, taking instruction from local authorities and community organisations. The firm is currently embarking on a period of expansion and is looking for an experienced lawyer to join the planning team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an expanding firm in a heavyweight, senior role with excellent prospects for the future.

The Role
Reporting to the head of the Highways and Planning team, this is a role for a senior lawyer with a minimum of 7 years’ PQE. The firm is regularly instructed by local authorities including the local County Council and deals with complex, high-profile issues. Experience in a similar role and an understanding of the politically sensitive issues raised is imperative, as you will be required primarily to advise senior figures within the public sector on a range of complex matters relating to the work of the department. The role also requires a commitment to the firm’s strong team ethos and the successful candidate should be comfortable assisting other members of the department as required; there may also be some supervisory work for junior colleagues.

The Candidate
It is expected that the successful candidate will be currently working in a similar role with a City or heavyweight regional firm. You should have excellent drafting and communication skills and demonstrable experience in matters relating to highways law, compulsory purchase orders, village greens and public rights of way.  It is essential that you have an in-depth knowledge of planning matters and local government practices and procedures and a proven track record of dealing with complex S106 planning agreements and advising clients on complex planning matters. A commitment to helping develop the department through assisting with marketing initiatives and strengthening its existing client base is also required.
